About Wharton Assitt

Wharton Assitt is an ageing wastrel with a bulbous nose who lives in north west England. Never managed to hold down a position in an organisation for very long and never really been what you could call a success at anything.

He does however have letters after his name that indicate a masters degree, this relating to studies on the design of user interfaces from which stem the interest in typography and usage of colour. Increasingly both type and colour are decided upon day-to-day by the non-expert, that is by someone who isn’t trained in such matters, and quite reasonably and understandably, they’d like a little guidance on how best to do it; how best, when laying out a presentation or putting together a leaflet for the local community-group, to choose the text and colours for it.

From my experience, I’d say that there is a great deal of myth and misunderstanding about typestyles and colours. Everyone has heard something on a course or has a friend or colleague who’s an expert, or thinks they are; it’s the old story, those who categorically profess knowledge are typically those who don’t know much, while those who really do know much realise just how little it is they know. I feel that some scientific bases, and especially tools for helping with the implementation of design issues by the non-expert, would be no bad thing. It’s that, or these, that I’m currently working on and thinking about, in between trying to keep the debts at bay.

As I’m a practised wastrel with no plans to change, I am not associated with any place of learning or any sort of group, preferring to wallow in my penurious isolation. I hope you like my site and will revisit it now and again, since it is being fairly frequently updated.
